Hello, hello! I'm Leo, and I am going to tell you a little bit about how to make a lynx character based on their breed.
"Uh, what? Isn't a lynx a lynx? e-e"
Actually, no. There are four differing breeds of lynx and each are unique for different reasons. I am about to teach you them, so you can avoid making purple neon lynxes and naming them Fluffy and trying to take over the mountains.
First of all is the most popular lynx species, the
Canadian Lynx or Northern Lynx
"What do you mean 'or'? e.e"
Some lynx species have "alternative" names. I prefer to call this specie the Canadian Lynx, but you can decide.
The Canadian Lynx is very variable in their size, and their silvery brown fur (Reddish brown in summer) is very thick and warm to help them adapt to their cold habitats. They have MASSIVE paws to help them walk across snow properly. They have thick "ruffs" or "beards" that are an outstanding trait in their appearance. They have a somewhat close genetic relationship with the Bobcat.
Onto deeper details,Please keep in mind this is not in a realistic set of mind! These are real facts about the Canadian Lynx that will aid you in molding their personalities and roleplaying. The Canadian Lynx is secretive and somewhat shy usually. They don't bond easily and enjoy mostly being alone, although these cats aren't stupid or blind to what may need to be done and can band together if they feel like it would be best for their survival. These cats can be ambitious, but usually they aren't traitorous. These cats are also incredibly loyal.
Details that could be useful for roleplaying, I bet you didn't know that the Canadian Lynx has so many nerves in their canine teeth, they can sense perfectly where they are biting their prey. They use marking techniques of marking boundaries with scent as well as setting visual markers.
These cats are AMAZING rabbit hunters and are very patient when on the hunt. They also favor various rodents and birds, and can even hunt deer when they feel like it! Surprisingly, they use hearing and sight more than scent to find their quarry. The Canadian Lynx is not considerably fast, and when it uses an ambush technique, it must wait to get as close as it can. If it does not catch it's game within the first few moments of running, it will give up. If it catches something big that it cannot eat quickly, it will hide it somewhere and return to it later.
The Lynx is also skilled in team hunting. One will scare the quarry toward the other to finish it.
"...Your point?"
This is good information about the Canadian Lynx! You can use them to make good Canadian Lynx characters that are realistic.
Overall: Northern Lynxes are of variable size and strength, they are typically secretive cats and usually prefer to be to themselves, unless they are born into ranking, wish for protection, or personally desire it. They can be a bit ambitious but rarely do they fight for rank. They are skilled hunters and a variety of hunting techniques depending on their location.

Next, the
Eurasian Lynx
The Eurasian Lynx is the biggest lynx of all four species! Their colors can vary from gray to red or even a paler sand color. These lynxes are usually spotted, but their spots can be either very big, very small, or even too pale to be seen properly. They have wide, webbed paws, and their "ruffs" or "beards" usually stick out somewhat horizontally!
Onto deeper details, these lynxes tend to be quite stealthy despite their size! Like the Canadian Lynx, they are shy cats. But they tend to prefer the shelter of a family and usually have a deep respect for ranking order. They are typically not ambitious and are perfectly fine on whatever rank they are placed on. They are not quick to fight, but only an idiotic kitten would pick a fight with a Eurasian Lynx. These cats are very patient, but eventually they can lose it and snap. Despite being shy and friendly, they aren't a group to mess with.
Details that could be useful for roleplay, They are very powerful lynxes and unlike the Canadian Lynx, they prefer bigger game, such as deer. Even caribou can make a good meal to this larger predator! They rarely prefer ambushing their prey and select a better technique that fits their stature. They stalk their prey, chase, and deal enough damage until it cannot continue. This works better with the large quarry they hunt and their own size. They aren't good with speed. They are very strong and often win fights, but rarely start them.
Overall: They are very shy, but prefer groups and aren't eager to be high ranked. They prefer large game such as deer, and can hunt deer easily. These are laid back cats but can kill with one swipe of a paw, so beware!
